Professor Anwar Ali Khan

Professor Anwar Ali Khan is a distinguished General Practitioner, medical educator, and international advisor with more than 40 years of service to the UK National Health Service (NHS) and health systems worldwide. A widely respected authority in assessment methodologies, medical curriculum design, primary care workforce reform, and complex healthcare commissioning, he has shaped policy, practice, and medical training across Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia.

Professor Khan serves as GP Principal and Trainer at Churchill Medical Centre and Professor of Primary Care Medical Education at the University of East London, where he plays a central role in advancing widening-participation strategies and developing the academic foundation for a new medical school. He is also Lead Examiner for the MRCGP, Assessment Lead for the UK Induction & Refresher Scheme, GP Lead for Genomics for UCL Partners, and Honorary Professor of Medical Education at Samarkand State Medical University.

His previous leadership includes serving as Medical Director for International Accreditation at the Royal College of General Practitioners, where he developed groundbreaking accreditation models used internationally; Senior Clinical Advisor to NHS Resolution, strengthening national patient-safety learning systems; Clinical Chair of Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group, where he led a major organisational turnaround; and Chair of the North East London Joint Commissioning Committee, shaping integrated care across seven boroughs.

A prolific author and global consultant, Professor Khan has designed national examinations, pioneered GP return-to-practice schemes, and led healthcare reforms in countries such as Oman, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Bulgaria, and across South Asia.
